About Me

My name is Amanda. Professionally, I am Manager of International Recruitment at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Personally, I am a globetrotting soul full of constant wanderlust.

I started this blog after a few friends made the suggestion. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for quite a long time. In fact, I’ve started one in the past, and have been invited to contribute to another, only to never write anything. Part of me kept saying to myself, “no one would be interested in reading what I have to say, so why bother?” But, I have traveled to over 23 countries (and counting) and I have never been very good about writing down memories from those trips. I take loads of photos, and post on Facebook and Instagram constantly…but that is just the “lite” version of travel blogging, and I would like to be more intentional about it.

So, this blog is mainly for me. A way to lock down my travel memories, to write more as a form of therapy, and to share my experiences with the few of you who might be interested. I am by no means an expert traveler or even an expert in my field, but I do have quite a few years of experience doing both. I am learning new things every day. That is why I love my job and the field of international education so much, and why I love travel – it always keeps me on my toes. As my favorite quote by St. Augustine goes, “The world is a book, and those who don’t travel only read one page.” I hope to read many more pages before my time is up.
